The Songket Ball 2009 - photos
The inaugural fund raising dinner, The Songket Ball, was held on 10 July 2009 at The Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur with a specially staged musical with performance by M. Nasir, Faizal Tahir and Ida Mariana.

With the theme “Keeping Heritage Alive”, guests to the event were treated to a night of songs, traditional dance and musical instruments.

The royal couple Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah graced the event.

It was an event where corporations, organisations and individuals showed support of YTNZ’s aim of preserving and enhancing indigenous Malaysian craft and heritage while helping to improve the livelihoods of artisans, weavers and craftsmen in Malaysia. The Songket Ball also showcased outfits using light-weight contemporary songket produced by the Foundation’s weavers and designed by top fashion designers like Tom Abang Saufi, Radzuan Radziwill, Melinda Looi, Jovian Mandagie, Rizalman Ibrahim, Tangoo and Pink Jambu.

All proceeds received for the Songket Ball will be used to support the fair employment of the Foundation’s 60 weavers in Terengganu and Sarawak and other initiatives by the Foundation to promote and preserve the Malaysian heritage of songket.
